Preparation and thermal analysis of synthetic malachite CuCO3·Cu(OH)2

The synthesis of malachite CuCO₃·Cu(OH)₂ or Cu₂CO₃(OH)₂ was studied through titrations of copper(II) salt solutions with a solution of sodium carbonate at different temperatures. The precipitates were characterized by TG, IR and chemical analysis. The composition varies depending on thepH of the solution and the temperature. Purer malachite was synthesized by simple mixing of a solution of copper(II) nitrate or sulfate with a solution of sodium carbonate at 50°C.The kinetics of the thermal decomposition of synthetic malachite was described by eitherR ₃ orA _m(m=1.2–1.4) law, according to TG analysis, both isothermal and nonisothermal. The Arrhenius parameters determined using three different integral methods showed the kinetic compensation effect, which is correlated to the working temperature interval analyzed.The authors thank Mr. H. Determination of alkaline-earth metals in foetus bones by inductively-coupled plasma atomic-emission spectrometry

Alkaline-earth metals in human bone samples have been determined simultaneously by inductively-coupled plasma atomic-emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). Results obtained by atomic-absorption spectrometry for Mg, Sr and Ba, and complexometry for Ca, have been compared with those by ICP-AES for a laboratory-control bone sample. Accuracy and precision were examined by analysing the IAEA animal bone standard (H-5). Agreement with the certified values to within 5% was obtained. The concentrations of the elements in foetal bone have also been determined.     

Alternating copolymers consisting of arylalkyl methacrylates. I. Fluorescence properties of poly(arylalkyl methacrylate-alt-styrene) in organic solution

Alternating and random copolymers of 9-phenanthrylmethyl methacrylate or 2-(9-carbazolyl)ethyl methacrylate with styrene were synthesized and their fluorescence properties were examined. There was no noticeable difference in the spectral features of the alternating and random copolymers in tetrahydrofuran (THF), demonstrating that this type of polymers have no quenching sites in the polymer chains. The fluorescence quenching studies indicated that the alternating copolymers permitted singlet-state energy migration as efficiently as the corresponding random copolymers but less efficiently than the random copolymers with higher chromophore contents. These results strongly suggest that to be chromophores close to each other is most important for facilitation of an intramolecular energy migration. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

Formation of non-racemic E- and Z-olefins based on discrimination of enantiotopic carbonyl groups in α-diketones by a chiral phosphonate reagent

A chiral HWE reagent reacted with an alternative carbonyl group of meso-α-diketones of bicyclo[2.2.1] system to give non-racemic (Z)- and (E)-olefins, respectively.     

Synthesis and antitumor activities of mitomycin C (1----3)-beta-D-glucan conjugate.

The conjugate of mitomycin C (MMC) with linear (1----3)-beta-D-glucan from Alcaligenes faecalis var. myxogenes IFO 13140 was synthesized and its antitumor activities investigated. The conjugate (MMC-carboxymethylated linear (1----3)-beta-D-glucan (CMPS)) was obtained by treatment of CMPS with MMC in the presence of 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-carbodiimide. In vitro cytotoxicity of MMC-CMPS against L1210 leukemia cells was similar to that of MMC. In i.p.-i.p. system in vivo against P388 leukemia in mice, the maximum increase of MMC-CMPS conjugate in life span (ILSmax) was higher than that of MMC but the therapeutic index was reduced. However, the antitumor activity of MMC-CMPS conjugate against subcutaneously implanted sarcoma 180 solid tumor in mice by i.p. administration was similar to that of MMC at a dose of 1.5 mg eq MMC/kg/d x 7 and the reduction of the number of leukocytes caused by MMC was suppressed by attaching MMC to CMPS. In addition, on assay using serum of sarcoma 180 solid tumor-bearing mice with injection of MMC-CMPS conjugate, a drastic loss of tumor cells and an increase in polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) were observed. This result suggested that MMC-CMPS conjugate induced tumor-regressing factor similar to CMPS.     

Multi‐input–Multi‐output Molecular Response System Based on Dynamic Redox Behavior of Hexaphenylethane‐type Electron Donors with the Tetrahydrophenanthrazepine Skeleton: Strong Chiroptical Signals through the Transmission of Point Chirality to Helicity

The title heterocyclic donors undergo reversible C? C bond formation/cleavage upon electron transfer (dynamic redox behavior). The helical sense in both neutral and cationic states is interconvertible by facile ring flipping. The π‐type asymmetric center on the azepine nitrogen atom induces a significant degree of diasteromeric preference, thus endowing strong CD activity based on exciton coupling. Chiroptical properties could be modified not only by redox reactions but also by heat and protonation. The present redox pairs can serve as unprecedented three‐way‐input (e, H⁺, Δ) and two‐way‐output (UV/Vis, CD) response systems.     

Twofold Brook rearrangement-mediated tandem reactions of δ-silyl-γ,δ-epoxy-α,β-unsaturated acylsilanes with a cyanide ion

Reaction of δ-silyl-γ,δ-epoxy-α,β-unsaturated acylsilanes with KCN in the presence of chloro or cyanoformates gives highly functionalized dienol silyl ether derivatives via a twofold Brook rearrangement-induced tandem sequence.     

Preparation of Layer Structure-Controlled Ru-Sn-Al2O3 Catalysts and Their Reactivity

In order to achieve functional group selective hydrogenation, the layer structure of Ru-Sn-Al2O3 catalysts was controlled by using sol-gel, powder impregnation and combined sol-gel impregnation methods. The properties of the catalysts and effectiveness in hydrogenation of dimethyl terephthalate were examined. The surface Sn contents of the catalysts characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy depended on the preparation method, in spite of almost the same bulk Ru and Sn compositions measured by X-ray fluorescence analyses. TPR and CO adsorption of the catalysts also depended on the preparation method. With regard to the conversion rate of dimethyl terephthalate and the rate of product conversion from methyl 4-hydroxy methylbenzoate to p-xylene via methyl p-toluate, Ru impregnation catalysts had higher rates than the other catalysts.     

On the Theory of Gravitational Field in Finsler Spaces

Some structural considerations are made on the Finslerian gravitational field: A Finslerian metrical structure such as g_λχ(x, y) = γ_λχ(x) + h_λχ(x, y) is proposed, where γ_λχ denotes the Riemann metric of Einstein's gravitational field, while hλχ the Finsler metric induced by the Riemann metric h_ij(y) of the internal field; The intrinsic behaviour of the internal variable y, which is expressed as ?ⁱ = K(x, y) y^j in the internal field, is grasped by the Finslerian parallelism δyⁱ (=0), which is reflected in the spatial structure of the external gravitational field by the mapping relation δy^χ = e(x) δyⁱ. The whole metrical Finsler connection D for g_λχ(i.e., Dg_λχ = 0) is determined by taking account of the intrinsic behaviour δy^χ.
